Kano State Government has ordered Gwale Local Government Council of the state to provide drainages at a cemetery in the area.
The Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, gave the directive on Friday while monitoring the monthly sanitation exercise for offices, markets and motor parks in the area.
Abbas, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Muhammed Bayi, stressed the importance of drainages in environmental health.
According to him, ”governments at all levels have a role to play in taking care of the environment; so we ask the local government authorities to provide the drainage to help in preserving the environment”.
He expressed satisfaction with the sanitory condition at ‘Yan Lemo fruits market as well as Na’ibawa Motor Parks, who also received orders to provide drainages.
NAN reports that the state government has introduced a monthly sanitation exercise for workplaces, motor parks and markets, which is observed every last Friday of the month. (NAN)
