Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Musiliu Obanikoro has denied reports that Nigeria recalled its High Commissioner to South Africa.
Acting High Commissioner in Pretoria, Martin Cobham and Deputy High Commissioner in Johannesburg, Uche Ajulu – Okeke were summoned back to Nigeria on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
Obanikoro however stated on April 26, that the envoys hadn’t been recalled as widely reported.
“Please disregard rumours and reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recalled its High Commissioner to South Africa,” the minister stated via Twitter.
“The MFA summoned the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa for consultation. He was not recalled,” he added.
Meanwhile, South Africa has responded to the supposed recall of Nigeria’s envoys calling it “an unfortunate and regrettable step.”
