Lagos unveils plans to tackle flooding in Lekki, others

In response to the urgent warning sounded off by the Nigerian Hydrological Agency that Lagos and 10 other states are at risk of flooding, the state government has assured residents to keep calm, saying adequate plans are already on ground to checkmate the menace.

The state represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Ayodeji Adenekan at a press briefing in Alausa last week, said that Lagos has put measures like the Ongoing distilling exercise of various canals and primary drainages, dredging of new canals, cleaning and clearing of drain collectors.

Also the state official added that Lagos has put in place various strategies and plans to ensure a flood free rainy season in 2015. He also hinted that apart from construction of new drainages which is a long term solution, immediate measure were also being put in place by clearing of the drainage facilities.
