Immigration Recruitment: Reps summon management over stampede

Mfonobong Akpan

The House of Representatives has summoned the management of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) over its recruitment test that turned tragic in some parts of the country.

The service’s recruitment exercise in 2014 led to a stampede which claimed 45 lives and left many more injured.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan had offered automatic employment to three members of the family of each deceased applicants and all those injured.

However, the agency is yet to give effect to the employment of families of victims of the Immigration recruitment pandemonium as directed by the former President.

The motion was taken after families of the victims staged a protest at the National Assembly over the inability of the NIS to follow the directive by former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

The Majority Leader at the Lower Chamber, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who met with the protesters noted that they had duly signed letters of employment but had not being allowed to resume work.
