Former Bayelsa State governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state, Mr. Timipre Sylva, has raised alarm over an alleged plan by his opponent, Governor Seriake Dickson, to obtain a N12B loan.
Mr. Sylva and the APC allege the loan, if secured, will be used to fund reelection bid of Dickson, who’s the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to a statement released by Timipre Sylva Governorship Campaign Organisation, the candidate warned that obtaining such loan at this moment could plunge the oil-rich Bayelsa into debt chaos, adding that the loan is completely unnecessary.
Sylva’s office added that Dickson had already concluded plans with members of Bayelsa State House of Assembly to expedite documentation for the loan so that the governor will be able to spend it on his electioneering by December 5.
But the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the claim by Sylva and his associates is misplaced and amounts to a mischief on their part.
He said the state is only drawing from an existing loan facility and that whatever is received from the banks will go into the ongoing airport project that is already 60% completed.
