The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has deployed more officers to police several dark spots across the state, saying the police have been inundated with complaints about growing cases of armed robbery in traffic holdup and residential areas.
Owoseni made the announcement while briefing newsmen at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday. He said at least 144 suspects have been arrested for different criminal offences in the state within the last few days.
He said, “One of the areas where the government has challenges is the issue of traffic robbery. We will not shy away from the fact that we have had pockets of robbery in traffic in recent times.
“In a day, I receive about four tweets of traffic robbery. I monitor this personally and I give directions and instructions immediately. When I newly came to Lagos, I used to receive about 10 robbery tweets in a day. It is improving now, and it will continue to improve.”
Other criminal activities the commission said he’s clamping down on include cultism and erring motorcyclists.
Meanwhile, Lagosians have expressed their excitement over the news. In several posts on the social media network, Twitter, the residents said they now have hope that robbery cases will significantly reduce in the coming days.
