The ancient Yoruba settlement of Ile-Ife came alive today following the royal entry of the newly-appointed Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Ogunwusi, 40, reportedly entered Ife, which is the home to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, amidst wild jubilation and heavy drumbeat by his townspeople.
He was received by several traditional chiefs, including Lowa Adimula, Oba Joseph Ijaodola, according to sources who witnessed the historical homecoming.
Ogunwusi’s appointment was confirmed by the Government of the State of Osun in an early press statement on Monday.
The town is currently in hyper-celebratory mood as pupils, business owners and even residents of neighbouring towns troop the road chanting heroic songs to welcome their new king.
