Bayelsa Guber Election: Group Purportedly Uncovers APC-Sponsored Violence as Campaign Intensifies

A social movement, Movement for the Actualisation of Egalitarian Society, MAES, has purportedly uncovered a plot by the All Progressives Congress to destabilise Bayelsa State ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election in the oil-rich state.

The group said the party is allegedly in connivance with its gubernatorial candidate in the election, Mr. Timipre Sylva, to make sure that the elections did not hold under peaceful atmosphere in order to conceal their impending defeat.

Mr. Sylva is locked in the gubernatorial contest with Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Writing in a statement it sent to the media, the movement noted that, “The reality is hitting them daily in spite of their grandstanding and empty propaganda. Timipre Sylva is now jittery. A recent poll conducted revealed that the party cannot muster more than 17 per cent of the votes in Bayelsa State. Yet, the party is determined to squander several billions of money belonging to Nigerians, on the white elephant project of ‘capturing’ Bayelsa State at all cost.

“It should, however, be noted that these desperate men are becoming a serious threat to the Nigerian polity. They are, obviously, no longer planning for elections but how to destabilise the state. They plan to release fake exit polls announcing APC victory before INEC would release the official results and thereby, cause violence.”

MAES also alleged theorised that the APC has secured the service of some security departments, like the police and DSS, to perfect a rigging plan they’ve put in place, but did not avail any evidence to substantiate the claims.
