One Lawal Suleiman has been arrested by the Katsina State police for allegedly causing sparks and explosion in a Mosque at Yartabki village in Funtua Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Thursday on Katsina, said the suspect caused the explosion in the early hours of Wednesday. According to the commissioner, the suspect entered the Mosque through the window at about 4 a.m. and caused the explosion.

Abdullahi said the suspect claimed that he attempted to charge his mobile phone in the mosque when the spark occurred. He said the suspect, who sustained injury in one of his legs, jumped out of the mosque through the window and attempted to escape after the explosion.

“The suspect claimed he hails from Kurtiki village in Magarya in Niger republic. “Police detectives had recovered one Tiger Battery, some substance, two handsets and N25.00 from the scene of the explosion.

“The bomb disposal experts are currently making analysis of the substances to confirm whether they are items for making IEDs,” the commissioner said.
