There was a growing anxiety among the friends, family and political associates of the immediate past Minster of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Thursday as rumours made the round that the ailing minister had died.
The fact that Alison-Madueke is being treated for cancer in the United Kingdom heightened the rumour as many reports on the social media reported her death.
However, her lawyer, Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe, debunked the rumour of the former Minister’s death.
When contacted on the telephone, he said, “It’s not true.”
The United Kingdom National Crime Agency had in October 2 arrested the former minister over allegation of corruption and released her on bail
Meanwhile, a human rights activist and Executive Director, Women’s Consortium of Nigeria, Mrs. Olabisi Olateru-Olagbegi, died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 62.
The President of Women Arise and Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, in a series of tweets on her Twitter handle on Thursday, expressed shock over her death.
