The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has joined other leaders around the world to hail the contributions of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to peace and democracy around the world as the former President turns 79.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, the Governor said Chief Olusegun Obasanjo brought his personality to bear as a global player to stabilize the democratic culture in Nigeria, saying the former President returned Nigeria to her status as a player in global politics, peace and economy.
He said: “As the world celebrate a quintessential African leader today, I join the rest of the world to applaud the man who ensured the unity of Nigeria; a global player in the drive for peace; an international force in democratic and economic expansion and a leader who has taken the Nigerian story to every part of the world.
“Today, the occasion of Chief Obasanjo’s birthday has resonated in us, the need for nationalism, patriotism, global service and the courage to take tough decisions in the interest of the nation. Chief Obasanjo is a leading example in leadership by commitments, sacrifice and courage to pursue the common good”.
Governor Bello called on young Nigerians to imbibe the leadership qualities of the former President which include putting he nation before any partisan or pecuniary interest and working tirelessly for the unity, progress and development of the nation, urging Obasanjo to keep playing his fatherly role in the advancement of democracy in Africa and around the world.
