The Lagos State government on Tuesday said it will commence the sale of the highly anticipated Lake Rice tomorrow, Thursday, December 22, at specific locations across the state.

The sale, earlier promised to commence on December 15 at a cost at N13, 000 per 50 kg had to put it on hold to ensure that plots to hijack the project was averted, according to the Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, Mr. Sanni Okanlawan.

He said, “We are working out the modalities to make sure that what the government intends to sell at N13,000 was not hijacked and sold to Lagosians at N15,000, that is what we do not want.”

He further stated, “Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on Dec. 15 at a cost of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidised by the government.”

Vanguard however gathered that the late arrival of the rice was due to unexpected delay in production. A state official who preferred anonymity, told Vanguard that the price of the 50 kilogram bag of the rice has been reduced to N12, 000, against the earlier speculated N13, 000.
