Six people have been confirmed dead from Tuesday’s collapsed building at No 3 Massey street Lagos Island while 16 other trapped victims have been rescued from the rubbles so far.

According to an eyewitness, the building collapsed at about 2.24 pm during a rainstorm. Adesina Tiamiyu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, who confirmed the incident said that erection of a telecommunication mast very close to the building contributed to the collapse.

Another source noted that the structure was initially a three storey building before a last floor was added. It was the weight of the fourth storey that led to the collapse of the building.

Mr Tiamiyu also noted that efforts to rescue others feared trapped in the building is ongoing.
