Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor-elect, over the weekend, paid a condolence visit to the slain Kolade Johnson over the sad incident that befell the family.

The incoming governor, during the visit, condemned the incessant extra judicial killings in the state and described the circumstances leading to the death of Kolade as callous and condemnable.

“I think this incident is a wake up call to all that there is need for the police hierarchy to take a second look at the operations of their rank and file.

“A situation where men and officers of the police and indeed any security organization will willfully cut down the lives of our youths is unacceptable.

“We should all speak against it.

“We must all rise against it.

“The police should realize that they are there to protect the citizens and not to send them to an early grave under any guise,’’ he said.

Sanwo-Olu further implored the family to be steadfast in their quest for what is just in the society, promising that as he assumes office on May 29, he would work in harmony with all security officials to ensure that extra judicial killings are put in check in the state.

The father of the deceased, Alhaji Oluremi Lukmon, while responding on behalf of the family, expressed his surprise at the visit of the Lagos State Governor-elect, describing it as a big relief to the family.

He, however, appealed to the incoming governor to give serious attention to the security of lives of the residents when he assumes office.

Sanwo-olu, before leaving, joined the family, friends and well-wishers in a special prayer for the repose of Kolade’s soul.

Kolade Johnson was, last week, shot by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of Lagos State Police Command while watching a football match at a viewing centre in Onipetesi, Mangoro, Agege area of Lagos State.

Several authorities, including President Muhammadu Buhari, have assured Nigerians that justice will prevail on the matter.
