Three Herdsmen Arrested For Killing A Farmer In Ogun State

Austin Papi

Officers of the Ogun State Police Command have confirmed the arrest of three local herdsmen in relation to the murder of a 40-year-old farmer, identified as Rafiu Sowemimo.

A police spokesperson said:

With information from the natives, we were able to arrest the three herders who perpetrated the heinous crime. The commissioner of police, Bashir Makama, has been to the village to condole with the family of the victim. He ordered the transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the SCIID for proper investigation and prosecution.

The senseless killings of people by these herdsmen is reaching an alarming rate. The body count went up again on Sunday when the herdsmen identified as Saliu Adamu, Saliu Ismail, and Muhammed Adamu reportedly stabbed the victim, killing him instantly.

According to reliable sources, the feud between the farmer and the herdsmen was a result of encroachment. Late Rafiu owned a farm in Adao village in Alabata, Odeda Local Government Area [LGA] in Ogun State and the herdsmen often allowed their cows to encroach on the late Rafiu's farm, thereby destroying crops and valuable plantations. The farmer was furious and grew impatient. He protested and confronted the nomads. The herdsmen, however, decided to kill him.
