Building Collapse In Jos: Seven People Rescued, Some Feared Dead

Austin Papi

A three-year-old building that housed a pharmacy, a public toilet and many people around the Butcher line in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has collapsed. Many people are feared to have been killed and deeply buried in the rubble from the accident which occurred a few days ago.

Ibrahim Hassan, the area's member representative of the House of Assembly, was present at the scene of the incident. He confirmed that seven people had so far been rescued. The victims were taken to a hospital in an ambulance provided by the Federal Road Safety Corps [FRSC] for proper treatment. Hassan urged the community to work hand in hand with the officials to complete the rescue mission, whilst rendering an apology to the affected families.

The Disaster Management Co-ordinator, International Committee of Red Cross [ICRC] in Jos, Usman Zakari, told newsmen that the seven people who had been rescued so far were rushed to different hospitals in Jos but he could not give an exact number of those who were killed in the accident because the operation was still ongoing.

“We evacuated seven people and they have been taken to hospitals but we can’t say how many were killed in the incident. The operation is still on,” he said.
