Some principal officers of the 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over misappropriation of N1.3 billion.
The officers were accused of sharing the 1.3 billion naira to the councils prior to the 2019 governorship election in the state.
According to a reliable source, the anti-graft agency had already invited some principal officers of the council areas for explanation on how the money was used.
The invited principal officers include directors of finance, cashiers of the 23 local government areas, secretaries, and according to reports, these officers will start making appearances this week. The Zonal Head of EFCC, Abdullahi Lawal, has confirmed the story but has refused to divulge any more information since the case is under investigation.
The Director General, Media and Public Affairs to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Malam Abubakar Shekara, said that he is confident, and as a result, does not have anything to hide from the investigation.
He further stated that it was not yet necessary to react to the issue since it was under investigation and would not want to interfere in their doings. He later stated that if there is any need to react, they would, but for now, let them do their job of unravelling the truth.
