150 Families Rendered Homeless By Flood In Bauchi

Reports suggest that 50 houses and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by a massive flood which was caused by a heavy downpour in Disina community, Shira Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State.

The flood continued swept up the Zaki and Gamawa Local Government Areas, washing up hundreds of farmlands and houses in its path.

150 persons were reported to have been rendered homeless as a result. The displaced persons are currently taking refuge in temporary IDP camps set up by the government, while they assess the flood situation which has continued to ravage communities in the state.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has pledged to come to the aid of the victims, assuring them that he would do everything in his power to proffer a solution to the flood crisis and help the displaced persons in the state.

Bala made this known through the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, who has been acting on behalf of the governor since he travelled for the 2019 Hajj.

Abubakar Suleiman made a sympathy visit to the District Head of Disina, Alhaji Abdullahi Mustapha, in his palace on Saturday. With him were other government officials.

Suleiman also assured the public of the State Emergency Management Agency’s assessment of the damages caused by the disaster and will act accordingly.
