Buhari Issues Warning To CBN On Food Importation

Jayfred Ugo

President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed, on Tuesday, that he has warned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop providing foreign exchange for importation of food into the country as a result of the steady improvement in agricultural production.

He made this statement in his hometown in Daura, Katsina State, where he assured Nigerians of full food security.

During the Eid-el-Kabir lunch at his hometown in Daura, the president who hosted the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors said that funds in foreign reserve will not be used on foreign food import bills but strictly for the diversification of the economy.

Buhari admitted that the challenges plaguing the states in the nation “were enormous.’’ The APC governors spoke in one voice, assuring the president of their strong support and promised to make “the very best effort’’ to overcome all the obstacles.

The governors further commended the president for making undaunted efforts and policies to re-position the dwindling economy for Nigerians.
