Many civilians were killed and several properties destroyed as suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Magumeri and Gubio towns in Borno State.
The insurgents attacked on Wednesday night and many were displaced from their homes. These areas of Borno State have been said to be constantly tormented by this group.
The insurgents stormed Gubio town, the headquarters of Gubio LGA, at around 5:40pm, opening fire on anything or anyone they could lay their eyes on, forcing various residents to run into the bush with their families.
According to some vigilantes, who were present prior to the attack on these towns, the insurgents moved to Mugumeri town at about 9:00pm where they destroyed properties worth millions of naira and also killed several people.
“They walked freely in our town, many houses were burnt and telecommunications mast equally burnt, many are feared dead. We can’t tell you how many people were killed but certainly many lost their lives,” the vigilantes said.
