Three NYSC Members With Fake Certificates Handed Over To The Police

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Taraba State has affirmed that it has handed over three young men to the police.

The young men, according to reports, were posing as graduates of tertiary institutions and in their possession were fake NYSC certificates.

The Coordinator of NYSC, Taraba, Mrs. Florence Yaakugh, confirmed this on Friday, stating that the suspects were caught with the fake certificates during the screening of prospective Batch B Stream 2 corps members at the orientation camp in Jalingo.

“If you will recall, the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Shauibu Ibrahim, recently expressed deep concern over the activities of fake corps members who cannot make a correct sentence in the English language.

“He directed us to check and fish out such persons and hand them over to the security operatives for further investigation and this is what we are just doing,” Mrs. Florence Yaakugh said.

The suspects, identified as Nasiru Yau, who said he studied Mass Communication, Shehu Murktar, who claimed to have studied Computer Science and Illiyasu Usman who supposedly studied Sociology, all from the Isfop University of Cotonou in the Republic of Benin, came for registration and the verification officer discovered that their certificates and verification papers were fake.

According to Mrs. Florence Yaakugh, when the young men were asked about their courses, they could not write or say anything logical about it. She added that preliminary investigation has begun and justice will be served.
