A Nigerian immigrant, identified as Maria Adesanya, is set to be deported from the UK after she was found guilty of bribing a Nigerian-born male nurse, Adekunle Adeparusi, to act as her lover and the father of her child in a bid to obtain a British passport for her child.
In 2014, a three-month pregnant Maria arrived the UK on an eight-month visitor’s versa. The 31-year-old coughed out £3,000 to the UK citizen and Nigerian-born Adeparusi, 44, just so he could put his name down in the registry as the father of the child in her birth certificate.
During her stay in the UK, Adesanya found work using the fake ID cards, belonging to two EU nationals, a Dutch and a Portuguese citizen.
Since 2014 till date, Adesanya has successfully raised her child, who is currently five years of age and is said to still be living in the UK.
A Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester sentenced Maria to 14 months in jail but immediately released her because she had been under curfew since October. She now faces the risk of deportation to Nigeria.
