Buhari Sacks Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission Boss

Austin Papi

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate termination of the appointment of the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Rev. Tor Ujah, following allegations of financial misappropriation and abuse of office, among other accusations levelled against him.

The Executive Secretary of the commission, Tor Ujah, will be probed for alleged fraud. The Nigerian government has directed Ujah to step down as NCPC’s boss to be investigated.

A document signed by the SGF’s legal adviser, Emmanuel Akissa, revealed the reason for the sack.

“The Secretary to the Government of the Federation is in receipt of a report, alluding to the fact that the funds of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission are being mismanaged,” Emmanuel Akissa said.

The Director of information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Willie Bassey, presented the statement on Tuesday to newsmen in the federal capital territory, Abuja.

"Ujah has been directed to hand over to Mrs. Esther Kwaghe, Director of Administration in the Commission, who is to oversee the office, pending the appointment of a Substantive Executive Secretary,” the statement read.

The termination of Ujah's position as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) was in line with the provision of Section 4, Sub-Section 3 of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission Act.

Further development suggests that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to present to the presidency a suitable framework for the operation of the offshore account maintained by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission and all other federal government agencies in order to closely streamline their operations.
