Court Dismisses Petition Against Senator Abbo

Margaret Solace

A petition filed to challenge the election of Senator Elisha Abbo as the representative of the Adamawa North Senatorial District has been dismissed by an Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yola.

The petition was filed by Senator Binta Masi, who was defeated by Abbo in the previously conducted general elections.

During the course of the sitting, the Tribunal chairman, Justice Sulaiman Akanbi, made it known that Senator Masi had insubstantial proof that Abbo’s victory was flawed by anomalies, as purported, and dismissed the case.

However, Mr. Yakubu Bello, the legal counsel to Binta Masi, commented that the ruling would be appealed.

Meanwhile, Senator Abbo advised his opponent to embrace the result and move on.

He further stated that the case had been a distraction to him, as he could not work properly, and he could now focus on his responsibilities. The senator urged his people to expect wonders, as he pledged to make them proud.

Similarly, several other cases of petitions filed by other complainants were dismissed in the same spirit of absence of evidential proof that the election results were tampered with over-voting.
