Displaced Residents Return Home After Fresh Boko Haram Attacks

Bernard Femi

Displaced residents from the Gubio and Magumeri local government areas of Borno State are now returning home almost after a week of fresh Boko Haram attacks that left many injured and some dead.

It was the quick intervention of the police that ensured rapid settlement after residents scampered. They have also resumed their normal activities in the area gradually. The dreadful sect, Boko Haram, raided the communities and also destroyed as many properties as they could lay their hands on. Areas that were hit most were the Gubio and the Magumeri settlements.

Many villagers were trapped during the attack and the Borno State government blamed military men for it, as they left their strategic positions and gave Boko Haram unrestricted access to these communities.

However, Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi during a guided tour to affected areas, including Gubio, Benisheik, Magumeri and Kaga local government areas of the state, said that the military men did not abandon their positions.

He also ensured that adequate security measures were put in place to make sure residents of these areas could resume their normal activities without fear of further attack.
