Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, has requested the support of the World Bank in inaugurating a productive medical emergency transportation system in rural areas to help reduce the mortality rate of lives in the remote villages and locations void of proper transportation routes

Ehanire made this appeal in a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mrs. Enefaa Bob-Manuel, in Abuja.

According to the statement, an approval of the policy would help address challenges of medical emergencies in Nigeria.

“There is a need for collaboration and partnership to ensure the realisation and sustainability of this type of project, as it will go a long way in reducing the number of lives lost on a daily basis, especially in rural areas,” Ehanire said.

Bob-Manuel confirmed that the minister made this announcement when he hosted a World Bank team on a mission for the Multi-Phased Programmatic Approach (MPA), Polio and Improved Child Survival for Human Capital, as well as the Nigerian State Health Investment Project (NSHIP).

She further explained that major plans were already underway for the establishment of an emergency response outfit by the ministry to combat emergency cases of preventable deaths due to abject poverty in rural communities.
