FG Approves N182 Billion For Rehabilitation Of Major Roads

Jayfred Ugo

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of N182 billion for the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the nation.

The approval was made at a meeting Buhari held with members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday at the Presidential Council Chamber, Abuja.

The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, who was also present at the meeting, informed state house correspondents that the first section of the approval was for the immediate extension of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic, and that alone would cost an estimated N15.2 billion.

“We have considered and approved some roads to be constructed. One is an existing road extended from Lagos-Badagry Expressway, which is ongoing; the council approved an extension to the Nigeria-Benin border for an additional cost of N15, 297, 762, 234.22, that is from the subsisting contract,” Aliyu said.

FEC has assured Nigerians that once the project is completed, the country will be a traffic-free zone and the money spent on the project will be recouped, as good roads and easy transportation of goods and services will attract investors from the diaspora.
