The Inspector General Of Police, Muhammed Adamu, has announced plans to review the use of firearms with Force Order 237 in order to reduce high risk operations.
He said that stun guns will be used henceforth to address the strategy of the police.
According to him:
“We’re officially launching a review of first order 237 which borders on the use of firearms. It is to reform and reposition the police.
“This document that will be Launched today will be sent to all police training institutions. There’s going to be a new syllabus on the use of firearms” he stated.
Furthermore, Retired Assistant IGP, Austin Iwar, added that “ a police officer must be satisfied with the use of firearms before firearms is issued to that person”.
Recall that there has been an increase in gun related violence between the police and Nigerian citizens.
Many have aplauded this new move and hope it will put a stop to the rise in gun related violence in Nigeria.
