Dr Bayo Faforiji, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Osun State, has tendered his resignation letter as a result of internal crisis within the party in the state.
You will recall that at the 2018 elections, the then incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola, threw his weight behind the contesting candidate of APC, Gboyega Oyetola.
SDP also presented their candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who came third in the gubernatorial election. But all was not well with the emergence of Omisore as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
Dr Faforiji came out clear to be against Omisore’s candidacy. This resulted in tussles and rifts between the party members. As a matter of fact, it affected their victory at the polls, as it was later reported that some party affiliates were working underground for other parties.
In a letter dated October 2, Faforiji stated: “I have come to realize that the requirements of my office as chairman and member of the party in the current circumstances are at variance with the values I believe in, and I wish to protect them as long as God gives me sustenance.”
