Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) allegedly killed three students of Ojumo Community High School and injured three market women in Ihunbo, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

It was reported that the customs officers lost control of a vehicle they were driving and swerved off the road, killing three students, who were standing by the roadside, possibly on their way home from school.

The vehicle involved in the crash was said to have been seized by the customs officers from some suspected smugglers along Idiroko road.

Angry youths of the community burnt the vehicles of the customs officers and attacked the men, who took to their heels.

The Ogun Customs Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Maiwada, has confirmed the incident to newsmen, stating that the customs operatives responsible will be investigated and justice will be upheld.

“I can confirm there is an incident that happened and our officers were involved and it’s very unfortunate that life is involved. But we are yet to confirm the details of what happened," he stated.

“However, the preliminary information is that our men were conveying a ‘tokunbo’ vehicle suspected to have been smuggled into the country; in which an okada rider carrying some students crossed their way. It was an accident. I cannot inform you about how many lives that were lost at the moment.”
