First ‘Made In Africa’ Smartphones Launched In Rwanda

Mara Group in Rwanda launched two smartphones on Monday. The phones, Mara X and Mara Z, which will cost 190 dollars and 130 dollars respectively, are said to use Google’s android operating system.

Both phones have been called the first made in Africa phone models. Ashish Thakkar, CEO of Mara Group, said that the plant had cost 24 million dollars and could produce 1,200 phones per day.

He further stated the plans of the group to gain more from the African Continent Free Trade Agreement to maximize sales across Africa.

He also mentioned that the agreement is scheduled to begin trading in July 2020 and is targated at uniting 1.3 billion people to create a 3.4 trillion dollar economic bloc.
