2020 Budget: Ministry Of Defence Proposes 1.5 Billion For Security Votes

The Ministry of Defence has proposed the sum of 1.5 billion naira for the 2020 budget, while over 30 million naira has been settled for the remaining weeks in 2019.

According to a source, the Nigerian budget has increased over the years as a result of issues posing a threat to security in the country, including banditry, Boko Haram insurgency and kidnapping.

See the break down of the security vote (N1,520,000,000) below:

Purchase of motor vehicles – N71,787,209.

Purchase of defence equipment – N80,000,000.

Construction and provision of office buildings – N248,185,236.

Construction and provision of electricity – N194,946,707.

Construction and provision of hospitals and health centres –N86,020,233.

Construction and provision of sporting facilities – N152,468,602.

Construction and provision of defence equipment – N203,134,466.

The budget partly reads:

Purchase of arms – N2,641,076,333.

Purchase of ammunition – N2,954,768,444.

Purchase of vehicles – N1,427,384,222.

These figures were gotten from the ministry’s budget for 2020, which was included in the 2020 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 8.
