The Oyo State House of Assembly has announced plans to sanction child sexual predators and paedophiles in the state.

Hon. Olawumi Bimbo Oladeji, lawmaker of the Ogbomoso North state constituency, called on stakeholders to put a stop to child sexual abuse at the plenary session which held on Tuesday.

She moved a motion with the title “Curbing the Menace of Paedophilia in Oyo State.”

According to her, the perpetrators were not being sanctioned and the act had spread.

Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, added that sexual molestation should be addressed, like in developed countries.

Oladeji explained that most of the victims rarely speak up for fear of stigmatization, adding that sex education should be aggressively taught to them and that parents of victims should not hesitate to report cases to the authorities for proper justice.

She further called on the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), and Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) to educate the children.

Hon. Ogundoyin gave the assurance that the house would work with all stakeholders to reduce the activities of paedophiles.
