“Akeredolu’s Home Town, Owo, Is The Headquarters Of Indian Hemp,” Says NDLEA

Funsho Akinwale

Haruna Gagara, the Ondo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has hit hard at the state governor, Ogbeni Rotimi Akeredolu, saying that his home town in Owo is the headquarters of Indian Hemp.

Haruna made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Thursday.

He said over 11,692 kilograms of illicit drugs in Owo were confiscated from the syndicate.

“The command destroyed drug totalling 11,692 kilograms, and the substances were seized at different flashpoints of Ondo township, Ogbese, Owo, Ore, Iju, among several others.

“Owo in Ondo State is the only state in South-West Nigeria with high cultivation of Indian hemp.

“This is evident in the seizures made by the command every passing year.

“Twenty-eight female suspects were also arrested at different locations,” he said.

Gagara concluded that measures would be taken to reduce the high rate of supply of the substances during the forthcoming yuletide season.
