Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, has disassociated herself from a group called South-Westshire Health Trust which was formed in alliance with her office to remove mentally challenged people from the streets of Lagos.
The First Lady, who was angered by the action of the group, has released a statement to that effect.
The NGO, in their brochure, had claimed that they had sealed a partnership deal with the office of the First Lady to kick off the exercise, which Mrs Sanwo-Olu has quickly countered through her office.
Nwonah Olubukonla, the Assistant Director, Public Affairs Office of Lagos State, in her statement confirmed that the management of the NGO indeed paid a courtesy visit to the First Lady, to solicit for partnership but Mrs Sanwo-Olu made it clear that some background checks would have to be conducted on the said NGO to ascertain the safety of the mentally challenged persons to be removed from the streets.
“For us, the safety of the mentally challenged persons is very important and we will have to conduct our espionage into the background and activities of your NGO (South-Westshire Health Trust) to be sure that they will be in safe hands,” Mrs Sanwo-Olu stated.
However, without the approval of the First Lady, the group went on to print the said brochure in a preposterous manner and attributed the initiative to her, which led to Mrs Sanwo-Olu dumping the group.
