The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has laid the foundation for the construction of a railway wagon assembly plant in Kajola, Ogun State.

According to reports, the railway plant, upon completion, will become one of the biggest private investments owned by the China Civil Engineering Corporation in Africa.

The Vice President charged the CCECC to commence the assemblage of trains in Nigeria.

As promised by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, the plant is expected to extensively solve transportation and employment issues and also bolster the nation’s foreign exchange through exportation.

While addressing guests at the event, Vice President Osinbajo stated that the ceremony marks a momentous turning point for Nigeria, as the railway system will transmute commerce in Nigeria and Africa at large, while serving as a secure and substitute means of transportation.

Professor Osinbajo also stated that President Muhammadu Buhari had instructed him to inform the Chinese contractors to work towards the assembling of coaches in Nigeria. He added that the CCECC was expected to commence operations swiftly towards achieving this goal.

The vice president also said that the Buhari-led administration was working towards linking the ports to rail lines and the government wished for some parts of the wagons that would be deployed to the Lagos-Ibadan railway and Abuja-Kaduna railway to be manufactured locally.

He remarked that this feat, when achieved, will change the face of importation and exportation in the African market.
