Plateau State Releases N400M To State Water Board For Jos-Bukuru Metropolis

Austin Papi

The General Manager of the Plateau State Water Board Corporation, Lambert Gomzuk, announced recently that the state government has allocated the sum of N400 million to the corporation.

Gomzuk said the sum of money was allocated in order to lay pipes that would connect the new development areas in Jos-Bukuru metropolis to the steady supply of public water.

He further informed newsmen in Jos that the construction had already started in some parts of Utan, Zaramagnda, and assured the people of Plateau that the job would not be abandoned but completed as soon as possible.

According to Gomzuk, all asbestos pipes in Jos-Bukuru metropolis will be replaced by 2020 with ductile pipes, to ensure that they last longer and remain efficient for years to come.

He also stated that the board had begun the mainstream project of water prepaid metering in Liberty Boulevard and in other areas in Bukuru, Jos metropolis, adding that water prepaid system was about to be introduced to the locality.

"This is to ensure that people pay for only the water they consume. As the board is faced with challenges of inadequate power supply and people failing to pay their water rates as and when due, these hampers the board from being proactive in pumping water,” he said.
