FG To Collaborate With Foreign Experts To Develop The Niger Delta Region

Bernard Femi

The Federal Government has revealed plans to partner with foreign experts to develop the Niger Delta region.

The Niger Delta Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio, disclosed this at a meeting with some Niger Delta delegates on Wednesday.

He received the President of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Oweilami Pereotubo, alongside other youth leaders from the Niger Delta region.

Akpabio, who is also from the Niger Delta region, noted that partnering with the African Export and Import Bank, AEIB, will create a platform for youths to explore opportunities in the agricultural and crude oil value chain.

He added that this will, in turn, create employment opportunities and bring sustainable peace and development to the Niger Delta region.

The minister urged those who sponsor youths to protest against the three-man interim committee which was inaugurated recently to oversee the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to tow the path of dialogue.

Akpabio further stated that nobody is opposed to the inauguration of the NDDC board which has been screened by the National Assembly.

According to Akpabio, Buhari’s administration will work together with the AEIB and other international agencies to generate funds at zero per cent or single digit for the building of major industries and factories in the Niger Delta region.

The leader of the delegates, Elder Timi Ogourigba, lamented that the previous administration denied the region of government’s presence and that the youths are ready to work with the ministry under Akpabio’s supervision.
