Obaseki Swears In New Edo State Chief Justice

Mr Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor, on Friday, swore in Justice Esther Edigin as the 7th substantive Chief Judge of the state.

The new appointment of Edigin is coming after the retirement of the immediate past Chief Judge, Hon Justice Esohe Ikponmwen, from public service.

Obaseki, while speaking at the swearing-in ceremony which held at the government house in Benin, urged the incoming chief justice to follow the footsteps of her predecessors and work assiduously in moving the state forward.

“Thankfully, Edo has not recorded any incident of suspension or dismissal of a judge by the National Judicial Council on account of corruption.

“This is a worthy record and one which I implore all judicial officers to maintain.

“We have made the judiciary a priority because any democracy is as strong as its judiciary.

“We will continue to remain partners in the areas of driving reforms geared towards speedy dispensation of justice for the common man,” Obaseki said.
