Members Of Sowore’s Family Seek His Release

Funsho Akinwale

The family of Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, over the weekend, called the Department of State Services (DSS) to release their son without further delay.

Olusegun Sowore and Robert Sowore, in their statement, urged the federal government to free the activist cum politician, adding that their son believes in one Nigeria and has a passion for the peaceful coexistence of the citizenry.

“The continued incarceration of Omoyele in the DSS custody, even after a court has given directive for his release, gives us cause for concern.

“The attitude does not portray the government in a good light in the face of the citizens and of international observers.

“The family is particularly worried about the DSS’ disregard for the rule of law.

“We envisage that the DSS men, in their characteristic manner, would deliberately want to incarcerate him for no just cause, even after meeting with the stringent bail conditions slammed on him by the judge,” the statement read.

Sowore was arrested on August 3 by the security operatives over allegations of treason and organizing #RevolutionNow protest, among other offences.

After spending a few months in detention, the court ordered the release of the former presidential candidate, but he was not granted bail by DSS.
