Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria [HURIWA], a civil rights advocacy group, has expressed great optimism in the Nigerian army.

The group expressed this in a statement, signed by the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf.

In the statement, the group also pledged their solidarity and support for the counter-terrorism war waged by the Nigerian armed forces against the popular terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

HURIWA applauded the Nigerian army for the recent rescue of vulnerable Nigerians who were held hostage by armed terrorists in the wake of the counter-insurgency war in the North East.

They believe the efforts of the Nigerian army in countering insurgency was rapidly yielding positive results.

The statement reads in part, "Acts of rescuing vulnerable Nigerians held hostage by armed terrorists which was carried out by the Army was a heroic show of respect for the fundamental human rights of the Nigerians.

“Such act is worthy of celebration and commendation by all Nigerians because it is popularly stated that if you commend someone for a job well done that person will intensify efforts in doing good deeds for the nation.”
