Sowore And Bakare Describe FG’s Request Of Transfer To Prison As Frivolous

Yusuf Dotun

Presidential aspirant and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, and his colleague, Adebayo Bakare, have labelled the federal government’s request to transfer them from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to prison as frivolous and irksome.

The Sahara Reporters’ boss and his co-detainee have implied that the federal government’s application, filed before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, in the bid to transfer them to prison was an attempt to provoke the court’s order for their on-bail release.

According to them, the application which was filed by the prosecuting counsel, Hassan Liman (SAN), on behalf of the federal government, is portrayed as a disdainful infringement on the order that instructs their release from DSS custody.

This was reflected in their preliminary countersuit filed to challenge the federal government’s application.

Sowore and Bakare are being prosecuted before the court by the federal government on charges of treasonable felony instituted against them in the wake of their call for #RevolutionNow protests across the country to demand better governance.

In spite of separate court orders instructing the release of the duo, the DSS continues to hold them captive even after meeting up with bail conditions.

The preliminary countersuit which was filed by their legal team, led by Mr Femi Falana (SAN), suggested that the federal government’s application for their transfer to prison showed lack of intentions for prosecution.
