Tunde Fowler’s Tenure To End On Sunday

Funsho Akinwale

Babatunde Fowler’s tenure as the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service ends on Sunday, December 8, and it appears President Muhammadu Buhari has no plans to renew his tenure for another term.

Our findings as at Tuesday at the National Assembly showed no sign or letter read on the floor of the house by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, conveying a request of the president to retain Fowler for another tenure.

Recall, three weeks to the expiration of Godwin Emefiele’s tenure as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, the president had quickly sent a request to the senate for tenure renewal.

Fowler, who is a close ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a childhood friend and former classmate of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, was appointed as the Chairman of FIRS on August 20, 2015, but did not get confirmation from the senate until December 9, 2015.

Briefing newsmen, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the reappointment of Fowler is vested with the president who would make the decision on the appointment.

“It’s the President that will decide when and what happens so we just have to wait,” Shehu said.
