The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has flagged-off the Victoria Island-Oniru axis road construction project.

The residents of the area came out en masse to witness the occasion. The governor, in his address, said they came to the area four months ago at a presentation at Four Points, and on that occasion, partners were informed that development would commence on Oniru road to Victoria Island from Lekki.

Expressing happiness over the work done within a short time, he said, “I’m happy that within a short time frame, a lot of work has been done."

He added, "With the stoppage of the rains, work can now start immediately."

According to him, the upgrade has become necessary due to the traffic congestion constantly experienced in the area, thereby causing a reduction in productivity and business growth.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the road construction was a “deliberate action” to solve traffic congestion and relieve Lagos residents of pain.

In her opening remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Mrs Aramide Adeoye, commended private sectors, including Access Bank PLC, for their involvement in the project. According to her, the project is a critical partner in the growth and development of the economy of Lagos State.

Also present at the event was the Planet Projects Managing Director, Biodun Otunola, who estimated the total length of the construction work to be 1.8 kilometres.

He further stressed that the construction would be purely concrete to ensure durability.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the project has been envisaged to be completed in six months.
