Funsho Akinwale

The National Union of Electricity Employees has suspended its strike, which was embarked upon on Wednesday to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the plight of its members.

The group turned back on their decision after a closed-door meeting with the federal government representatives which lasted till the early hours of Thursday morning.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, the National President of the union, who confirmed the development to the media, said the workers' displeasure on welfare has been adequately addressed.

“We have concluded deliberations and all issues were addressed, but we are awaiting implementation.

“Meanwhile, our strike action is suspended,” Ajaero said.

The strike, which began on Wednesday morning, resulted in a nationwide blackout as electricity workers shut down most of the offices of the Distribution Companies across the country.
