Buhari Urges Nigerian Varsities To Improve Internal Revenue

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has urged universities across the country to consider increasing the revenue generated internally, in order to enhance sustainable education.

Buhari made this known in a speech at the 44th convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

In the speech, which was delivered on behalf of the president by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Dr Suleiman Raman-Yusuf, Buhari disclosed that the current administration has immensely contributed to the growth of the country’s educational sector.

According to Buhari, the future of Nigeria is residual on the value of education made available in the country, with proper focus on the future leaders - the youth.

Buhari also made it known in the speech that the government is incapable of achieving the feat alone, and it requires the support of the Nigerian universities.

The president also intimated that this was how other developed countries across the world have managed to improve the state of their country’s educational system.

However, he charged universities to make efforts at contributing a certain measure to the administration’s efforts at expanding the economy of the country as well as creating chances for economic growth.

In the concluding part of the speech, Buhari warned members of staff of Nigerian varsities to desist from the abuse of office, sexual harassment against students, amongst other related misconducts, stating that anyone found guilty would be punished in accordance with the law.
