Funsho Akinwale

Ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered police commands and formations to beef up security nationwide.

A statement released by the force’s spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, to the media in Abuja on Sunday read: “In addition, the IG directs that the supervisory officers must ensure they are personally on the ground to monitor and supervise the officers and men under their watch for optimal performance.”

The IG also cautioned his men to avoid misconduct and abuse of human rights of the citizens during the celebrations.

Also confirming the order of Inspector General of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, said on Sunday that the command had deployed over 7,000 officers and men to provide security in churches and other public places in the state.

Adeleke warned cultists, kidnappers and other criminal gangs to have a rethink before perpetrating any crime that may lead to death.

He gave the warning in a statement issued on Sunday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, in Asaba.
