On Monday, a man identified as Umar Faruk Funtua was shot dead by gunmen in Malumfashi, Katsina State.
Funtua, prior to his death was a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University School of Basic and Remedial Studies. He was said to be visiting a friend in Malumfashi when he was shot by the bandits.
According to close sources in Malumfashi, the gunmen were swooping the entire town in search of a businessman with an intent of kidnapping him.
They eventually came across the residence of the businessman in the Kwandala area of Malumfashi. They attacked the house and it was during the altercation that a stray bullet met the lecturer.
One of the sources said.
“It was while they were trying to gain access to the businessman’s house that they started shooting sporadically, which resulted in the killing of the lecturer.”
Funtua was said to have died on the spot, from bullet wounds. Meanwhile, his remains were later evacuated to the General Hospital, Malumfashi.
The gunmen responsible for the killing of Funtua were also reported to have illegally carted away mobile phones from some youths in the area before eventually driving out of the town.
The Police department in Kastina is yet to disclose anything concerning the untimely death of the lecturer.
