Reports from Gamboru Ngala local government in Borno State indicate that many people, mainly women and children have been killed in a bomb explosion, which is suspected to have been masterminded by the dreaded Boko Haram.
The explosives were reported to have been planted close to a bridge between the Nigerian and Cameroonian border. The explosion left the town rocked and struck with sadness as the New Year Festivities was barely over in the area.
Some traders who spoke to reporters informed them that the bomb exploded during a routine security check on people who are coming out of the market.
One of the traders called Alhaji Tahir Mamman, who spoke to reporters said he cannot give the exact number of casualty but many people were killed in the explosion, mostly women and children.
“Today is the market day. The bomb incident happened at 3 O’clock when the people were returning home.
“A lot of women and children have been killed. May God Almighty bring an end to our predicaments,” Tahir said.
The military is yet to comment on the bomb explosion, it is a new year in the country but same old misery for the people of Borno State.
