Amotekun Is Not Constitutional - Maigari

Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Police Affairs, has said that the south-west security code project, Operation Amotekun, should be a federal government project.

Speaking in Sokoto with newsmen, Maigari said the intentions of Amotekun was good, but it is only constitutional that national security is taken care of by the federal government.

He added that the police were doing an amazing work of securing the country, and that they could only work more efficiently if the military personnels were withdrawn from certain areas.

“The intentions of the South-west governors are good. However, some people have expressed fears about the regional security force.

”Security is an exclusive responsibility of the federal government being supported at times by state governments and other organisations.

”If Operation Amotekun differs from the support being rendered by state governments to the Federal Government on security matters, then it is unconstitutional,” Dingyadi stated.
